This is the day the zodiac moves into Capricorn (Makar) so this date is “regarded as the beginning of an auspicious phase in Indian culture,” with the “termination” of the inauspicious period and the start of longer and warmer days in the weeks ahead.
As with most Indian holidays and festivals, people celebrate with an exchange of sweets. On this day, it is most commonly a sweet made from sesame seeds called Til Ladoo, til meaning sesame seeds.
Very easy recipe to make I should add!
